Slumdog Millionaire

Oscar-winner for Best-Picture, “Slumdog Millionaire,” is a fairy tale story of a Mumbai orphan who goes from the mean streets to the hot seat on “Who Wants to be a Millionaire.”

The dramatic love story is uniquely outlined as game-show contestant Jamal K. Malik (Dev Patel) uses flashbacks from his childhood to help him answer the trivia questions.

Throughout the R-rated film, Jamal is reminded that he is just an uneducated “slumdog” who will never amount to anything.

Against all odds, Jamal is one question away from winning 20 million rupees, but all he can think about is his childhood love Latika (Freida Pinto).

Jamal has fought his whole life to be with the fellow “slumdog” orphan, but each time he chances upon her, the timing has not been right.

Director Danny Boyle plays to a sympathetic audience who by the end is cheering for the underdog to finally win the money and the girl.
