Walt Disney’s newest release “Race to Witch Mountain” debuted at No. 1 last weekend, grossing $25 million.

Director Andy Fickman transforms the 1975 children’s movie “Escape from Witch Mountain” into a science-fiction adventure movie uncharacteristic of the Disney brand.

The revamped version still pays homage to the classic with cameos by the original children (Kim Richards and Ike Eissenmann).

Unaware of paranormal activity in Las Vegas, cab driver Jack Bruno (Dwayne Johnson) transports siblings Sarah and Seth (AnnaSophia Robb and Alexander Ludwig) to a cabin in the middle of nowhere.

As the children enter the cabin, Bruno notices they over-paid him for the ride. The former criminal decides to do the right thing and return some of the money.

When Bruno catches up with the children they are attacked by a man in a spacesuit. The trio escape to Bruno’s cab, where they are then chased by a spaceship.

After a not-so-clean getaway, the children reveal they are aliens with “super powers” trying to save earth.

The unlikely heroes have a tough task ahead of them as they are being pursued by the U.S. government and alien bounty hunters.

Whether Bruno is saving the children or vice-versa, planet Earth is at stake.
